Tom Scott, born in 1947, is a renowned New Zealand cartoonist, journalist, and satirist who has left an indelible mark on the country’s political and cultural landscape. After graduating from Massey University in 1972, Scott began his career as a political correspondent for the New Zealand Listener in 1973, where he illustrated his own articles with cartoons.

His sharp wit and incisive commentary quickly gained attention, leading to a prolific career spanning decades. Scott has won the New Zealand Cartoonist of the Year award seven times and has also been recognized for his work as a columnist and political commentator.

Beyond cartooning, he has ventured into scriptwriting for television, film, and theatre, creating acclaimed works such as “Footrot Flats: The Dog’s Tale” and the semi-autobiographical play “The Daylight Atheist”. Scott’s ability to provoke and entertain has made him a central figure in New Zealand’s media landscape, known for his fearless approach to political satire.
