I’ve studied over a hundred of the most successful Etsy shops and noticed a specific pattern they’re doing that you may not be aware of. In this video, I’ll break down all of the different tips and tricks that these top 0.1% of Etsy shops are doing so you can achieve the same. After watching this video, you’ll learn how to break the Etsy algorithm to get more traffic and sales.
I’ll showcase a couple of real-world examples from different successful Etsy shops and break down some of the elements they’re doing so you can model these specific strategies.
Tip 1: Diverse Listing Pricing and Variety
When you scroll down to the “More from this Shop” section, you’ll see different listings with varied pricing. Some are cheaper, some are more expensive – ranging from $3 to $14. There are several reasons for this approach:
- Every buyer is different. Some want everything included, while others seek a specific tool, feature, or design.
- Multiple listings allow you to expand your reach by using different keywords for each listing.
- Price anchoring is a powerful strategy. By offering multiple price points, you help buyers gauge value. For example, if you have only two items at $10 and $30, buyers might immediately gravitate to the cheaper option. However, if you add a $60 listing, the $30 item suddenly appears more reasonable and attractive.
Tip 2: Maximize Tags and Keywords
When uploading a listing, use all 13 available tags. Every successful Etsy shop capitalizes on this opportunity. Create different variations of keyword phrases to improve searchability.
A helpful tool is Everbr (a free Chrome extension) that provides product analytics. It shows:
- Different keywords and tags
- Search volume
- Competition rates
Ideally, use keywords with the highest search volume and lowest competition rate. These become your primary keywords for titles, tags, and descriptions.
Tip 3: Leverage Listing Media
For successful listings:
- Add a listing video to increase conversion rates
- Use the video to show product instructions, usage, or lifestyle settings
- Utilize all 10 image slots with intentional, varied content
- Each image should have a specific purpose: lifestyle showcase, instructions, included items, call-to-action, or bonus information
Most buyers will swipe through images before reading descriptions, so pack important information into your visual content.
Tip 4: Optimize Shop Banner
Instead of just displaying a logo, create a product-focused banner. Showcase a grid of products or current promotions. Since your logo and shop name are already visible, use the banner space to make a stronger first impression.
Tip 5: SEO-Friendly Shop Title
Add SEO-friendly keywords to your shop title. Rather than just using a slogan, incorporate primary keywords to improve organic search and reach.
Tip 6: Craft a Compelling About Page
The About page is an opportunity to:
- Showcase your uniqueness
- Share your story and inspiration
- Explain the problem your products solve
- Include relevant keywords for SEO
Buyers want to know who they’re buying from, so make this section personal and engaging.
Tip 7: Organize Listings into Sections
Create sections for your listings to:
- Categorize products
- Improve buyer experience
- Enhance SEO by using primary keywords in section titles
You don’t need hundreds of listings to be successful. Starting with 16 to 24 listings is recommended.
Tip 8: Specialize, Don’t Generalize
Focus on a specific category or niche rather than trying to sell everything. Spend time researching and validating your marketplace. If you have multiple product ideas, consider creating separate shops for each niche.
Tip 9: Maintain Cohesive Branding
Create a consistent visual style across your listings:
- Use a consistent color palette
- Choose uniform fonts
- Develop a mood board for inspiration
- Ensure all visuals align with your brand aesthetic
Tip 10: Create a Comprehensive FAQ
An FAQ page helps to:
- Answer common buyer questions
- Reduce purchase friction
- Improve SEO by incorporating keywords
If you’re unsure what questions to include, research your competitors’ FAQs for inspiration.
